Several Danish municipalities recently fell victim to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, disrupting the websites of cities including Vejle, Albertslund, Dragør, Esbjerg, Frederiksberg, and Frederikshavn. The director of the Danish Cybersecurity Centre (CFCS), Mark Fidel, reported that such attacks are often carried out by pro-Russian cyber-activists, who regularly target Denmark.
The purpose of these attacks, according to Fidel, is to draw attention to the hackers’ actions, often choosing symbolic targets connected to Denmark’s support for Ukraine. While the CFCS managed to prevent a number of potential attacks, in some cases, some damage was unavoidable.
The CFCS continues to work on addressing the aftermath of these attacks and strengthening defenses against similar threats. This incident underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and the need for constant vigilance against potential threats.
The attacks were reported first by The Copenhagen Post.
