Product Updates

Expanding Our Open-Source Stack, Plus a New Advanced Release

September brought several important updates across the FastNetMon ecosystem. We launched FastACL Community and Netom, expanding our open-source stack into high-performance DDoS scrubbing and large-scale BGP/BMP monitoring. We also released FastNetMon Advanced 2.0.384, with new psample traffic collection, multi-endpoint flow forwarding, expanded Prometheus monitoring, and more.

Deprecation notice

Debian 11 (Bullseye) reached its FastNetMon Advanced deprecation date on September 15, 2026. Version 2.0.383 was the final release supporting Debian 11, so users still running Bullseye should plan their migration to a supported operating system. For more info see our Release Lifecycle.

FastACL Community

Open-Source DDoS Scrubbing at 400 Gbps

Big news this month: we launched FastACL Community, our open-source inline DDoS mitigation engine built on FD.io VPP. We designed it for extreme packet-processing performance on commodity hardware, reaching 270 Mpps with 64-byte packets and full 400 Gbps throughput in our testing. DDoS scrubbing at this performance level is still unusual. With FastACL Community, we decided to build it — and make it available to everyone.

For a more hands-on perspective, we also shared “We are under attack! (of a DDoS)”, a community story from Peter-Paul Kurstjens about building his own DDoS detection and mitigation setup around VPP.

Introducing Netom

Open Source BGP Monitoring Built for Scale

Netom is our new open-source BGP/BMP monitoring engine for operators working at serious routing scale. It ingests BGP, BMP, and MRT data, keeps routing state in memory, exposes it through CLI and HTTP API, and can retain history in ClickHouse. The first release builds on work we demonstrated at NANOG 97, including monitoring 300 million prefixes across 2,800 BGP sessions.

Want to see Netom taken for a spin in the wild? Exergy ∞ Connect has already been putting it through its paces (Kudos to Jeroen van Bemmel).

Team News

Denys Haryachyy joins FastNetMon

We’re pleased to welcome Denys Haryachyy as our new Senior SDN Software Engineer. Denys brings more than 20 years of experience in high-performance networking, SDN, and data plane development, with deep expertise in VPP, DPDK, C, and AF_XDP.

At FastNetMon, he is helping us expand our high-performance DDoS mitigation capabilities, including the work on the VPP-based filtering technology behind FastACL. We’re excited to have him on the team as we continue building the next generation of DDoS protection.

A Look Inside FastNetMon LiveView

Recent NOG Meetups

We enjoyed visiting the Nordic networking community in Oslo, where Pavel Odintsov presented FastNetMon Community Edition.

Great to spend time with the Croatian network operator community in Zagreb, where Outi Maria Pietilänaho spoke about today’s botnets and DDoS landscape.
