On January 28, 2025, FastNetMon had the privilege of attending the inaugural TRNOG event in Ankara, a significant gathering for the Turkish Network Operators Group. This non-profit community of network engineers is dedicated to advancing the internet in Turkey, providing a platform for sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration.
The event was a one-day intensive program featuring presentations and workshops by industry experts on network technologies and internet infrastructure. With over 100 participants, the event brought together a diverse group of individuals, including government regulators, representatives from Türk Telekom, private companies, and other organisations. The vibrant discussions and exchanges of ideas demonstrated the potential of this group to drive forward the internet landscape in Turkey.
The agenda was packed with insightful sessions, starting with an opening speech by Chafic Chaya from RIPE NCC and Seher Sağıroğlu from ICANN. Osman Makal provided an overview of the TRNOG community, highlighting its goals and initiatives. Presentations by Alptekin Sunnetci and Ömer Shadowli showcased projects developed under the community, such as RTBH and tools.trnog.net, offering valuable insights into the practical applications of these projects.
Further sessions were delivered by Osman Makal, Alptekin Sunnetci, and Ömer Shadowli about community projects The afternoon sessions included a presentation by Chafic Chaya on the use and future of IPv6 and RPKI in Turkey, followed by Seher Sağıroğlu’s talk on the security of the DNS ecosystem and ICANN’s role in this area.
FastNetMon’s own Pavel Odintsov delivered a presentation on DDoS detection and mitigation methods, sharing our expertise and solutions with the audience. The event concluded with an open mic session, where attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and share comments. This interactive segment fostered a collaborative atmosphere, encouraging participants to voice their thoughts and contribute to the ongoing dialogue.
