Azerbaijan has faced a series of massive DDoS attacks targeting state information resources. The country’s digital infrastructure is challenged as the attacks have been disrupting the services and overwhelming systems with a flood of traffic. The Special Communication and Information Security State Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been actively working to neutralise these cyberattacks and ensure the continuous operation of state information resources.
The DDoS attacks have led to the implementation of measures to filter out malicious traffic. However, in the process of clearing anomalous traffic, some legitimate IP addresses may also be temporarily blocked. Citizens using state information resources have been advised to be aware of potential short-term disruptions as these protective measures are carried out.
The nature of DDoS attacks makes them particularly challenging to defend against because they can come from various sources, making it highly tricky to tell apart genuine users from malicious traffic. These attacks come just a few weeks after online resources belonging to the Global Media Group were hit by a large-scale DDoS attack, causing disruptions to websites such as Report.Az, Oxu.Az, Media.Az, Baku.ws, and BakuTV. There were attempts to hack servers and control panels of these sites, and the specialists were labelling the attack as an attempt to capture the servers.
There is yet no information on the culprits of the attacks and the potential motive.
