BreachForum seize potential FBI Takedown or a DDoS attack

The notorious cybercrime marketplace BreachForums has gone offline once more, but this time, no one’s quite sure who’s behind it. While some suspect another FBI takedown, a group calling itself the Dark Storm Team claims they launched a DDoS attack on the site ‘for fun.’

Dark Storm Team is a pro-Palestinian hacktivist group known for targeting Israeli infrastructure, and it has recently expanded its activities. They’ve claimed responsibility for attacks on X (formerly Twitter), Finland’s Central Bank, and Hungary’s Defence Ministry. The group also offers DDoS-for-hire services and has been promoting its own cryptocurrency, DARKSTORM/SOL, raising concerns about potential financial motives behind their attacks.

The FBI has officially seized previous versions of BreachForums in the past and did take down similar marketplaces like RaidForums and Nulled. But this time there’s no typical FBI splash page or clear takedown signature, only DNS disruption and speculation.

Meanwhile, rumours are circulating about the arrest of ‘IntelBroker,’ a prominent figure associated with BreachForums, but nothing has been confirmed by law enforcement. While these claims circulated, others spotted a fake domain charging $250 in crypto for access to a ‘new’ version of the forum, a classic scam layered on top of the chaos.

BreachForums has a history of being taken down and resurfacing. After the 2023 arrest of its founder, Conor Brian Fitzpatrick, the site was revived by other cybercriminals, including ShinyHunters and USDoD. Given this pattern, it’s likely that the forum, or a similar platform, will reappear.

Even when major platforms like BreachForums go dark, it’s rarely the end of the story. More often than not, someone always picks up the pieces, unfortunately.
