DDoS attack causes a POS Outage In Israel 1

On Sunday November 10th, a DDoS attack caused widespread disruption to credit card readers across Israel, affecting several payment systems in supermarkets and gas stations. The incident, which lasted approximately an hour, targeted the communications services of Hyp’s CreditGuard product, a key payment gateway company in the country.

According to reports from the local media, the DDoS attack disrupted the communication between card terminals and the broader payment system. No sensitive information or transaction data were compromised. Hyp’s spokesperson communicated that the attack was rapidly identified and blocked, allowing services to return to normal shortly thereafter. The attack specifically targeted some of the company’s services and the communication providers connected to them.

While the identity of the attackers remains unclear, few local news sources have reported claims from an Iran-linked hacker group, though these claims have not been substantiated with sources. This incident follows a similar attack in October on the payment firm Sheba, which caused a three-hour disruption in the national payment system.

The increase in cyberattacks on civilian infrastructure in Israel is occurring amidst regional tensions, with politically-motivated groups, including those affiliated with Iran and Hezbollah, being active participants.
