DDoS News A week long DDoS attack on Argewebs servers

Late March, a well-known Dutch web hosting provider, Argeweb, found itself under fire from a DDoS attack that spiralled into a week-long struggle to stay online. What started as a few complaints about slow-loading sites turned into widespread disruption as DNS servers were overwhelmed.

The incident seemed like a simple technical issue, but after a few days of inconsistent service, the company confirmed the real cause is a sustained DDoS attack targeting its core infrastructure.

A tough week for users and engineers

We are used to DDoS attacks flooding systems with junk traffic until nothing legitimate can get through. However, this time the attackers kept changing tactics, forcing engineers to respond in real time while customers waited for services to return.

Attempts to fix the issue worked briefly, only to be undone as new waves of traffic hit again. After several days of firefighting and coordination behind the scenes, things finally started to settle. By early April, the platform had stabilised, and additional defences were put in place to catch any renewed activity early.

DDoS attacks are rarely a one-time event

There are no allegations or claims of responsibility, but this isn’t the first time this provider has been hit by a DDoS attack, and it likely won’t be the last. The playbook is familiar: DNS servers go down, websites follow, and customer trust takes a hit. What has changed is the persistence. Attacks that used to last minutes now stretch into days, sometimes weeks.

That’s why preparation matters – not just good infrastructure, but fast detection, clear communication, and enough breathing room to recover without disruption spreading. Read more about best practices of DDoS defence for hosting providers here.
